Dr. Bin Yu is the Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor and Class of 1936 Second Chair in the Departments of Statistics and Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. She earned her B.S. in Mathematics from Peking University in 1984 and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Statistics from UC Berkeley in 1987 and 1990, respectively.
Dr. Yu’s research encompasses statistical machine learning, data science, and interdisciplinary applications in fields such as neuroscience and genomics. Dr. Yu is a member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Yu has also served as President of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and has been recognized with numerous honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the COPSS Distinguished Achievement Award and Lectureship in 2023.
